Darjeeling has always been close to my heart. This time, I set out on a memorable trip with Popo and my wife, Iman, through Sterling Holiday. From breathtaking landscapes to unforgettable food experiences, this trip had everything a traveler could wish for.

Day 1: The Journey Begins

Our adventure kicked off on the night of the 9th of February as we boarded the Easy Rider Volvo Sleeper. The journey was smooth, and before we knew it, we had arrived at our destination.

We checked into Sterling Hotel, a beautiful property with a stunning view of the hills. The moment we stepped in, we could feel the serenity of the mountains welcoming us. After a little rest, we spent some time exploring the surroundings, soaking in the beauty of Darjeeling. The cool mountain air, the misty roads, and the old-world charm of this town set the perfect mood for the trip ahead.

Day 2: Exploring Lamahatta & Tinchuley

We woke up fresh and excited for the day ahead. After a hearty breakfast, we set out to explore Lamahatta, a peaceful eco-tourism spot surrounded by lush greenery. The tall pine trees and quiet ambiance made it an ideal place to unwind and reconnect with nature.

Next, we headed to Tinchuley, a quaint village known for its tea gardens and breathtaking viewpoints. Standing there, looking at the endless stretches of tea plantations, I couldn’t help but admire the untouched beauty of this place.

By evening, we returned to our hotel, exhausted but content. After a delicious dinner, we called it a night, looking forward to what was in store for us the next day.

Day 3: Shopping at Mall Road & Iconic Breakfast

No trip to Darjeeling is complete without visiting Mall Road. So, we took our time strolling through the bustling streets, exploring the small shops, and picking up souvenirs. The charm of this place is something that never gets old.

We had planned to have breakfast at Keventers, the legendary eatery known for its sausages and hot chocolate. Unfortunately, we couldn’t make it, but we still enjoyed a delightful breakfast elsewhere, soaking in the old-world charm of Darjeeling.

Day 4: A Visit to Mirik & Return Journey

On our last day, we decided to visit Mirik, a quiet town famous for Sumendu Lake. The view of the lake, surrounded by pine forests and tea gardens, was mesmerizing. It was the perfect way to end our trip—calm, peaceful, and breathtakingly beautiful.

With heavy hearts and a treasure trove of memories, we bid goodbye to the hills and started our journey back.

Final Thoughts

Darjeeling never fails to amaze me. No matter how many times I visit, the charm, the misty mornings, the warmth of the locals, and the beauty of the mountains always make it feel like home. This trip with Popo and Iman was truly special, and I can’t wait for our next adventure!

A Dol to Remember: Shantiniketan Diaries – Spring 2025

April 6, 2025

This year, we decided to do something a little different for Dol Utsav. Instead of staying back in the city, we—me, Iman, Dodo, and Popo—packed our bags and set off for Shantiniketan. What better place to soak in the spirit of Basanta Panchami than the very land where Rabindranath Tagore turned spring into a festival …

“The loves we share with a city are often secret loves”, wrote Albert Camus in his Summer in Algiers. That was in 1936; but it rings true even today in this vastly changed world where we seldom find time to fall in love with people, let alone cities, like Joyce fell in love with Dublin, …

Intraday trading is often romanticised as a quick path to wealth, but the reality is harsher. It is considered one of the most difficult professions in the world, and also one of the most rewarding if one approaches it with clarity and discipline. My own journey has been shaped by repeated failures, gradual learning, and …
